Yup! Before my son moved back east we did it all the time. I know he's run across some of my trackables back there too. Has been awhile but maybe this summer. I also have a cache but it keeps getting destroyed or muggled....

Yeah - I used to hunt caches alot, but haven't done it recently. It was
alot of fun. Sometimes I had problems finding the caches. Alot of the
times it was my fault, but sometimes the cache had been removed or put
in a different place by mugglers.

I enjoy the hunt, always wanted to place a cache and I bought an ammo
container and stuff to put in a cache. I have never placed it though,
can't seem to find a 'unique-enough' place. Also wondering about the
rules for placing caches. I think you have to have an upgraded
membership to get them posted on the site. Not sure though.

Anyway, it's still a blast when you are able to find a really good
    hidden cache!

    Thanks for jogging my memory!

Anything special required to place a cache? (I realize I can just look
it up, but wanted to ask someone with experience)

I used to work with someone who wa sinto geocaching about 10-15 years ago. They had some app that would export geocache coordinates to google maps. I to ld him of some areas i though would be in the middle of nowhere to hide a cache, and we looked up the area and found there were already 5 caches in
that wetlands reserve. The boat launches in my area have little tubes tucked up behind the signs.

Yeah - I think I did try to find an area, but as you mention - there
were already caches in that area. I can't remember how far apart
    they need to be.

Also wanted to make sure it was in a reachable enough area where I
    could maintain it as needed.

    Thanks,

I've used various containers and all you really need is a log book in it. I have one I'm working on that I printed out of ABS on my 3D printer. It has a "labyrinth" lock that you have to figure out to open it. It also looks like a log of wood...
You register it a Geocaching.com with coordinates. They review and approve as long as it's not too close to an existing one.

My co-worker would use the capsules mostly, but got into these cching tubes that looked like a threaded end of a bolt, with a not on them. It was magnetic, and were easy to camoflge anywhere with structural iron. Up the roa d from my house he found a rubber bat cable tied to a tree branch with a cache capsule glued to the body.

I have found those before! I looked and looked but couldn't find
the 'micro' cache until I noticed an asymetry to the bolt patterns
on a sign post. Lo and behold, when I touched it, it moved.

The strange thing was that the log was so small as it was rolled up
inside the bolt, there was barely enough space to put my initials on
    the log...

It was a fun find though. Not trying to be thick, but what is a
    'bat cable'?

A rubber bat (the flying mammal) fastened with a wire cable or zip tie to the tree branch. It's leg had the capsule attached, like one would tie a note on the leg of a homing pigeon

Thanks for the info! Sounds like another cache I found, the name
was 'Angry Birds' and the cache container was a birdfeeder with the
cache inside (instead of bird seed)..

    Happy caching!

Another cache my friend showed me was on the back of a building hidden among electric meters. One of the electrical panels had no conduits coming in or out. It was held on to the side of the shed with magnets
