• Text-Based Browser for Commodore 64 Ultimate

From Lumni@VERT/LUMPLYHS to All on Thu Mar 26 09:42:00 2026
Has anyone seen a Lynx/Links type text browser that works with the C64U?

I found some old ones from like 20 years ago, but of course they don't work on the C64U.

    Or is anyone programming one?
    Just wondering

Do you mean native ones? Cause there are a bunch of online ones. Both in 40 and 80 columns...

As for a native browser, it's probably possible, but it doesn't seem like you'd get much reward out of one, when you can use one through a BBS or something.

In the spirit of the Commodore, I thinkwe're gonna have to build it
ourselves. Let me know if you
find one though, that'd be sick.

I am just learning to program r/n
but what little I know about the
    hardware/C64U hardware emulation, I
feel like you'd have to make use
of the REU somehow to make even
a text browser work, if indeed
    it can.

I'm curious what message editor you're using? Most of the linses in your message are fairly short, but every so often there are some long lines.

His "NOTE" kludge says "Synchronet msgeditor master/775e87a61", and "COLS" kludge states 40. So mayhaps it has something to do with using that editor in 40 col mode, but something with "flowed" text is still sneaking in there at times? Either way, I've noticed it, too.

Ah yes, the elusive "Registered/Nurse" language.

Sorry that's the best joke I've got.
